FAQ’s From Glass Monkey in Murfreesboro, TN

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Is my damage repairable, or do I have to replace my windshield?

Damage types vary, but the repair process includes the same steps for each one. Both chip and crack damage is considered to be repair candidate if they meet the following criteria:

The chip/crack is less than 14 inches from beginning to end, and the impact point is smaller than 3/8”

If inside the Driver’s Primary Viewing Area (DPVA), the crack can be no longer than one inch from beginning to end, and the impact point is smaller than 3/16”

  • How long do I have before my chip will turn into something unrepairable?

There is no precise way to tell when this will happen.  A few ways to aid in the prevention of a “crack-out” are as follows:

When parked in the sun, do not roll your side windows up. This will allow any heat pressure that builds up to escape without pressing on your windshield and causing the damage to spread as a result.

Place a piece of clear packing tape over the damaged area and smooth it out to get rid of all air bubbles/gaps in the tape. This will help keep your chip dry and free of debris.

Avoid temperature swings. In the winter, do not use hot defrost directly on your glass if you have unrepaired damage. In summer, refrain from using the air conditioning directly on the glass.

Damaged glass usually gets worse when it is rapidly forced from one temperature extreme to another.

  • Will I still see the chip after it is repaired?

The level of visibility will depend on the severity of the initial damage. Air pockets and perfect circular shapes such as “bullseye breaks” typically vanish completely, although you may still see the shape/outline of the clear resin. The goal of windshield repair is to structurally repair your glass. The secondary objective is to make it pretty. At Glass Monkey, we emphasize quality and longevity as well as aesthetics.

  • Are repairs permanent? Does Glass Monkey offer any kind of warranty?

Glass Monkey repairs are permanent, and we offer a lifetime warranty. In the rare case of a repair failure, you will receive a full refund or a credit toward a new windshield at a shop of your choice.

  • Are there certifications available for auto glass shops?

Glass Monkey technicians are certified through courses at the National Windshield Repair Division of the Auto Glass Safety Council, Auto Glass University, Glasweld Professional Academy, and Crack Eraser Pro Kits. We also attend continued education and compete annually at the World Windshield Repair Olympics throughout the United States.

  • Do I have to use a national brand because my insurance company recommends them?

No. Steering practices are illegal and unethical.  Unfortunately, this does not prevent large companies from trying to obtain the first opportunity to sell their service to you.  You can always choose the shop of your choice. Most policies will reimburse you for any money paid to chip repair companies. This is unique to each policyholder.

  • How much time does the repair take, and will I be able to drive as soon as it is repaired?

Most repairs take around half an hour from start to finish. Of course, some damage types will take longer, while other types of breaks will be resolved and cured in a matter of minutes. Your vehicle will be safe to drive as soon as our technicians return your keys.
